The UCG industry has grown from about 20 developmental projects in 2005 to more than 40 in 2010. Projects are advancing in at least ten countries. Numerous pilot plants are now testing the technology's viability. Zeus has conducted a survey of proposed, under construction and operational projects worldwide. Great Northern Properties Limited Partnership is the largest owner of coal reserves in the U.S. (other than the U.S. Government) and, in combination with its other affiliated companies, owns or controls more than 25 billion tons of coal in most of the major coal basins in the U.S. Mr. Kerr, as President of GNP and also, as Managing Director-Gasification of Quintana Capital Group, a natural resource based private equity fund, will discuss how an owner of the resource and potential UCG project investor views the burgeoning development of underground coal gasification, and what project developers must bring to the table to win owner and investor participation.

Poland is becoming a leader in UCG application. The country has coal reserves to satisfy its energy needs for more than 400 years. The challenge is extracting and consuming the deposits in a safe and efficient way. Currently, efforts are focused on industrial UCG implementation. Researchers have developed a system, called the Zakiewicz Method, named after Dr. Bohdan Zakiewicz, an early pioneer. Dr. Moncarz has been asked to review the latest issues and advancements in Poland. |

Both carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) and UCG are perceived as clean coal technologies and both face similar skepticism from a public that sees unfamiliar technologies which we are proposing to deploy underneath their backyards. In the light of its legacy environmental reputation, UCG encounters even greater difficulties from these perceptions. Dr. Burton will compare the histories of these two technologies with the goal of determining what lessons learned might be profitably shared between them. |

Brisbane-based Carbon Energy Ltd. aims to produce cleaner energy (power and synthetic natural gas) and chemical feedstock from UCG synthesis gas. The company is developing commercial opportunities using syngas for the production of power and chemicals, expanding its resource inventory globally. The company developed the world's first commercial scale, oxygen-injected UCG facility at Bloodwood Creek (approximately 50 kilometers west of Dalby) in South West Queensland. Peter Swaddle has been asked to describe the issues facing large scale commercial development of UCG. |

Alaskan-based CIRI is one of 12 Alaska-based regional corporations established to benefit Alaska Natives in the Cook Inlet region. The company is owned by more than 7,200 Alaska Native shareholders of Athabascan and Southeast Indian, Inupiat and Yupi Eskimo, Alutiiq and Aleut descent. CIRI is exploring a UCG project with carbon capture and sequestration to fuel a 100-megawatt combined-cycle power plant. The project would be sited on CIRI lands on the west side of Cook Inlet, Alaska near natural gas fields and infrastructure. Mr. Schutt has been asked to describe how CIRI intends to develop this project. |

Clean Global Energy announced June 16 that it has completed acquisition of a coal asset in Victoria's Gippsland coal basin, and thereby commenced work on its Victorian UCG Project. The company intends to fast track the project, which represents a strategic position in the Victorian energy corridor being in close proximity to power generators and other potential clients who could benefit from Clean Global Energy's UCG Syngas.
Clean Global Energy plans to utilize its proprietary Linear CRIP UCG technology to generate a range of UCG-Syngas products.
Mr. Hart's presentation will provide an overview of the Clean Global Energy UCG system including the various coal bed seams, the lithology of the floor and roof and control mechanisms, the input and UCG output characteristics of various media in the wells, and the expected quality of the product gas versus the different types of coal seams. |
