Gasification plans for supplying syngas to a nitrogen facility in Kenai, Alaska were shelved by Agrium Inc. The company concluded after economic studies were complete that a gasification facility and infrastructure to supply the coal feedstock to the project would be too expensive. The project, dubbed Blue Sky, was proposed because of a lack of natural gas supplies to Agrium’s nitrogen facility, which caused the company to shut down the facility on Sept. 25, 2007.
