Russia, the holder of the world’s largest natural gas deposits, is an authoritarian country with centralized natural gas regulations. Central to Russia’s natural gas exploration and production schema is the country’s formal 2003 Energy Strategy plan, which details the country’s expectations to year 2020.
The Ministry of Energy was created in May of 2008. During the transition of Dmitry Medvedev, the new President, the old Ministry of Industry and Energy was turned into simply the Ministry of Industry, being removed from regulating energy-related policy. The former Federal Agency for Energy (Rosenergo) was merged into the new Ministry of Energy as well.
Russia’s main energy laws are:
Law on Gas Supply (in Russian)
Law on Electric Power Industry 2003
